Trip to Dallas

Finally, people like my partner, and DaninOKC had me jealous about their going to Dallas. I finally made it to see my best friend. The flight was quite late and I got in at 12:30am, but that was fine. Talked for about an hour getting caught up on the way to his house. Saw his house. His kid and wife were asleep.

We were up at 8am Saturday and he made us breakfast burritos. Went to Downtown Dallas and saw the JFK museum, etc. LOVED DOWNTOWN DALLAS. Lots of gays, which surprised me. Went to Joe Garcia in Fort Worth for a super strong Margarita that was made with Everclear (190proof!!!). Knocked him and I on our asses. Back to his house for daiquiris and chatting. Talked about the old neighborhood, friends, when we were young, and briefed his wife. This was the first time seeing him in 3 years, and first time meeting his wife outside of the wedding. Also got onto a conversation about church. She was baptist, my friend was evangelical, and they got to talking about how Christians to them, seem to be the worst people when it comes to taking advantage of another. People throw that term around that I'm a Christian. They also feel the people in their church are also always borrow, borrow, borrow, take, take, take, and there's no give and take relationship. They are basically fed up with the church, and she was a pastor. She said that was a part of the reason she was turned off. There was so much gossip too.

So Sunday came, and we went to Ft. Worth to watch the cattle drive. HAD A BLAST. So fun. Loved the cowboys, the music, the shops, the food. All good, and must go back. We also got to see behind the scenes of where my friend works, which is AWESOME. He is doing quite well for himself, and I'm proud.

Mike picked me up at 9:30, and we talked all the way home.

This week Mike and I went to see about life insurance and name each other beneficiaries, and all that jazz. Good stuff.

Some thinking thoughts

Work has sucked lately. Going to blog about a few things on my mind in no random order to get it off my chest...

had to go to several poverty trainings since it was decided i was teaching the staff about that - i know more than most of the presenters - and I see the conditions in the community I work, and what I hear from the students

I know poverty is all about relationships - you stick up for those around you, and it is all about backing them, even when they're in the wrong

TV is the babysitter, and yes, they all have big screen tv's that are the entertainment. when a parent is working hours and hours on end, it is one surefire way to make sure the kid is at home and doing something, so that also goes into game consoles etc.

Abuse does happen sometimes - and kids sometimes try to shadow it from their parents

Unhealthy foods like candy bars etc. are often treats. when you have several kids, etc., you're in a store, and they want something, you might not be able to afford the super expensive toy for your kid, and that brings on guilt, so little things like candy, when they want it, and you get it, helps make you feel more secure, and like you are doing something for your kid

have a new administrator who is a complete asshole. I can do no right. it is bordering on harassment, and i will be reporting it to the union. criticizing me telling me i have no management (everyone else thinks otherwise), quick to point out any fault, harassing me about taking a long time to get to my classroom in the morning (am on crutches and have duty) to let kids in

so yes, i'm on crutches because i tore a calf muscle, have a torn meniscus, and lots of bruising

my sister continues to be stupid - i refuse to visit my parents when she is around

wanting more and more to buy a house to rent out, as well as a new car, and do a few additions to our house... money... never have enough of it

i have found the best new moisturizing product ever - argan oil

Get to go visit my best friend this month and see his little one... so excited!!!!

want a luxury car at that - even cpo - certified pre owned - it is not like i'm driving a lot now, and i don't plan to hold onto it after it hits 100k. sure it costs a little more, but its about the thrill of driving as far as I'm concerned. my partner thinks otherwise. we have his old luxury suv deal, his convertible, and my fuel efficient car. we have talked about going more fuel efficient - prius like - but part of me wants a luxury car - i feel like i should be moving up - not staying the same and also not compartmentalizing myself into something

my car could get about $6-7k right now. its nearly at 100k, so needs about $300 for the tune up and then about $450 in other work. so i would be putting $750 in a car that i'm going to keep for another year. i don't like that idea. dang cars being expensive.

got to go see country singer dolly last month. she was amazing. she was so affable and we ran into her a couple times prior to the show

have a few more divas planned this year like reba and cher

need a massage badly - i have been having lots of neck and shoulder knots,a nd my hands have been tensing up and developing knots. it perplexes the therapist why/where they come from, and i am at a loss. it hurts and times where i can't make a fist. my regular doc just dismissed it saying it was probably some movement i was making

i'm watching eyewitness news now, and omg, elex michaelson drives me crazy. i swear, i don't know why he is a lead reporter. i'm not sure he can tell a complete story, or even one that is unbiased. oh, and he has a creepy look. he needs to go.  sure hope he doesn't replace john hartung on the weekend broadcast - i will not be able to watch. rob hayes is hard to watch also, and is only worthy of a reporter. he seems uncomfortable on the anchor desk, regardless of how many times he fills in.

my anxiety has been acting up. no bueno. i hate it. it makes some days tough.

Why listen?

Can I say I strongly loathe my sister? Ugh. She drives me crazy. She is so naive.

So um. We're at dinner tonight as a family, and the conversation was all about sister know it all.

So let me update you on sis, since I know its been months. She had dropped out of her masters program because she didn't want to write a thesis, but reenrolled because she was bored. She got her masters in like May or something.

So... um... just because she got a piece of paper she's still as stupid as before, and that's pretty stupid.

So... she got 2 dogs a few months ago, there was a whole runaway incident and only 1 came back, so she adopted a new one. So... um... the reason the little one was lost, and this was the cute one, was because sis didn't believe in putting a block in the fence so it could avoid getting out.

Um... the dumb one, the big one, Josefina, wtf type of name is that btw? Josepfina is allowed in the house, and no other dog has been before. Josefina climbs on everything - furniture, couch, and on people. My sister claims it is just the way dogs act. Um. I'm sorry, dumb shit, no they don't. Dogs need to be trained. She claims they don't because they're a part of nature.

So dumb shit sister was mad at me a few weeks back because I was home visiting my parents when Josefina climbs up on me while I'm laying on the couch. She nearly lands on my laptop computer. I slap the dog and pick it up by its collar, then throw her outside in the yard. My sister came in the room at the time I was throwing the dog out, and yelled at me because I wouldn't want to be treated the way I just treated the dog, then slugged me as hard as she could in the back. I was about to slap back, but my sister probably would have called the cops.

So time for Christmas, she got mad at me because I bought her dog training courses. She was in tears because I bought her such a bad gift, it wasn't a gift for her, it was for the dog. Also, it was wrong because dogs are a part of nature and should not be trained. Why did i only buy the trainings for 1 dog? She said the dog listens to her, you just have to know how to talk to it.

So... we will fast forward to her school stuff now.

So... she got hired teaching at the local community college... what? Why did I not get hired? She is only teaching 1 class, a basic intro class into speech. She claims she has the highest ratings of any professor ever. She said that she had high reviews from students and her faculty reviewer. Um. I doubt that. Everything on ratemyprofessor.com says otherwise.

She talks about the kids tell her how hot she is - my sister is far from it- and everyone I talk to, friends and family included tell me she's not hot. She dresses like a preteen, wears sweatsuits, has unnaturally straight hair that she straights with the dumb iron, and is all acne-eed out.

So... she talks nonstop about how great the kids think she is, and how considerate she is.

She talks about how my parents and I don't know how to teach because we're only secondary teachers. She talks about how she has only good kids. Um. Doubtful.

So... her class is also the most popular because she has a wait list. I informed her it is probably because it is a required class that kids have to take to transfer to a CSU school. She said its not true and kids are talking to her to teach more classes. Um. Doubtful.

So now I've got my frustrations out...

Ringing in the New Year - NYC for NYE

Christmas was pretty good - Christmas Eve I ran errands, cleaned up around the place, then headed to my parents. We had steak and opened gifts. It was tasty. Got most everything I asked for from my parents like slippers and a few pairs of shoes. There were a few weird gifts like my mom always buys, and it is like why? I got a car blanket for my trunk, a horrid looking pocket watch with some hunting scene on it... wtf am I 70? Who uses pocket watches? Socks that don't fit.

Christmas Day was spent making some spinach dip, then going to my aunt's house. Great fun hanging with the family. I wanted one of those little flying helicopters like they have in the malls etc. that you can buy, and had my hands on that during the gift exchange/stealing game thing, and it was stolen by my aunt. I had my hands on an Atari game set, which was also stolen, then ended up with a color changing shower head that apparently won't fit any of my shower heads.

Day after I jetted off in first class to NYC. Matt Damon was on my flight with his familia. He is HAWT.

Spent the next day with Mike's family. We went out shopping with his mom. The following day was pretty much like that, we also met his cousin who lived in the area devastated by Sandy.

Made our way to the city the following day to hang with his friend K, O and P. We went to dinner at several small plate places in the west village. Browsed real estate too in the area. Found a place for $299 that was probably really scary, or had some insane HOA. Found a cute $459k place on 25th that was also vetoed. Enjoyed our Times Square hotel btw.

Went to the transit museum, and shopped our favorite NYC stores. Best store ever is Lord & Taylor. LOVE THAT STORE. Great shoes, clothes, etc. Uniqlo was insane. Too crowded to buy anything.

Met up with my friend D who just got back from Albania and is teaching in the Bronx. Mike didn't really like him. hahaha. He was a bit obnoxious he thought. That's his personality. Haha.

NYE was spent shopping at the stores mentioned above, then we had our own party up in our hotel looking down onto the stage. Melissa Ethridge took the stage about 6, then there were a few performances every now and then. I thought the entertainment would be constant. Could not fathom standing on the street for hours and not being entertained continuously. We watched simultaneously down below, could open our window and hear it, then watched on TV. Went down to dinner about 10:30 at a Thai restaurant, were back up in our room to see the ball drop and make out session, before heading down on the street to see the aftermath. It clears out fast. The amount of trash and pizza boxes and confetti is amazing.

Up at 8 the next morning for brunch with K, O, and P. Mike made eggs, potatoes, and a few other goodies. Lots of champagne too. We left K to nap while we made our way to Union Square for Nordstrom Rack. Found nothing. Headed up 5th Avenue to the flatiron district for our favorite stores. Met K a few hours later for a shopping adventure. Thought about DaninOKC as we found some really cool stores. Our favorite we had been to before was Fishs Eddy, found some awesome plates and gifts. Then we found a few new stores that are new favorites - ABC Home. Dan, that's a store I think you would really enjoy that is a mix of furniture, design, and more. Walked all over town up to nearly 23rd and then down to West Village again where we found cute places for dinner. Went into the hidden Speakeasy Employees Only. AMAZING MANHATTAN. Love me my Manhattan. Said goodbye later to K, which was sad.

The next day was spent traveling home - made it out before the blizzard. It was a feel like 12 degrees, but really 22 when we left. I loved the cold weather. I loved the calm. I loved being all bundled up. Rode home in first class. Only way to go.

Yesterday was my cousin's wedding, and it was so amazing. I nearly lost it. She was so beautiful. Had an awesome Oscar De La Renta dress. Had such a fun time with family too.

Craziest story. I kept seeing a girl at the wedding and kept turning around to look at her. Stalkerish, well, I knew her. I kept trying after the wedding to talk to her, but she disappeared. I finally asked my cousin's now husband if the girl was, and the name of my student. He said he had no idea. I finally saw her again, and approached her, and found out there's a weird family relation - very distant. My cousin's now husband's sister's husband's sister is my student. What would that make her? LOL. I think she was as surprised as I was. She's a good girl. She's got like a 98% in my class. Always challenges everything that I say in a good way - a discussion type of way - she's very vocal. What are the chances of this meeting? So weird. My cousin married into this Mexican family, and my school is in an all Mexican area. 92% hispanic. Her husband went to my school when he was in middle school. My cousin does live in the area I work, so I guess there's always that chance.

Partying it up

Spent the better part of the month partying when I wasn't working.

Well, when I was working I was dealing with a bunch of crazy stuff. I had the Dept. of Corrections test this past weekend to be a corrections officer.

Also signed up to teach in the prisons.

And applying at local colleges.

My cousin's wedding shower was last weekend too. It was great seeing all the family. Great food, and some bonding time with my cousins who live nearby. Mike and I are making plans to get together with them.

The weekend before we did a massive housecleaning for all my teacher friends to come over. It was only going to be just English teachers, but ended up inviting a few others. Wish I had invited M and B. Next time. We had such a blast. Started off the night with a cheese plate, jalapeƱo poppers, then had chili, bread, and all sorts of cookies for desserts. Wine and cheese was wonderful. Had such a blast.

Going to a drag Christmas party at The Guy's tomorrow. Trying to plan a weekend trip with him and Rob.

Going to the work Christmas party too tomorrow.

We went to happy hour yesterday after work to celebrate the kids being gone - today was a teacher work day. OMG. So fun. M and I sang Christmas carols. My sissy was there too- first happy hour she went to this year. We celebrated our favorite lesbian getting engaged. Everyone thinks it is beyond time for Mike and I to tie the knot, and they all want to have a party for us.

We had our first pep rally at school this past week. Was soooo fun. I was in 2 scenes - teachers performed to Beyonce's Single Ladies and Can't Touch This with B. B is my favorite guy. He seriously is so fun. He's a former police guy, great rapport with the kids, big supporter of me and my sexuality (his dad is gay).

That's what's going on in my world. What's going on in yours?
