25 Reasons Why I Hate Glee

I have watched nearly every week, and every week have these conclusions running through my mind. I have tried hard to like it, really.

1. The acting
2. The drama
3. Is the drama realistic?
4. The actors don't look like they're in high school and they don't do a good job playing high schoolers. Again, see bad acting.
5. I see real high school drama everyday
6. Very few of their songs are good- the few exceptions are:
- Don't Stop Believin' - but it is getting old quickly
- Don't Stand So Close to Me
- You're Having My Baby
- Run Joey Run
... out of a good 100+ songs seen so far on the show
7. The unrealistic rivalry between the clubs on campus (and staff to an extent)
8. The themes/special guests every week... Olivia Newton John, Britney, Lady Gaga, who else? And all of these songs have yielded really bad remakes of their hits.
9. The kids lie, cheat, steal, and yet they're allowed to be in the glee club? Um... no...
10. Punishment is to be in the glee club?
11. And gleeks, wtf is that? When did being in the glee club become cool?
12. The rather ridiculous cult following.
13. The unrealistic rivalry- Sue pulled the fire alarm during the glee club concert on Tuesday night's episode.
14. Where is the principal?
15. The conniving women
16. The clichés... high school... boy drama... girl drama... the gay guys... fitting in drama... it is a cheap ploy by producers. Friday Night Lights is an example of handling these situations in a much more subtle way.
17. Lack of originality... see the characters above and the stereotypes/characterizations mentioned.
18. The show could choose to tackle the stereotypes and do it in a creative way, but no...
19. There is always a happy ending...
20. Who acts like some of these characters in the show?
21. The overmarketing and milking it for every dollar- iTunes, the Christmas CDs, the constant musical guest specials...
22. The plots all deal with the same thing- pregnant, not pregnant, Sue is mad, Sue is not mad... same thing week after week
23. Of course you had to have a gay guy...
24. The drama/stories I see on this show can't even begin to compare to what I see in real life on a daily basis.
25. How put on, fake, and realistic does this scene below look- especially with the wheelchair boy and him pumping iron, or let alone on the football field?
26. ... AND A BONUS REASON... is it quantity over quality with the songs and the many new songs each week?

Maybe it is the underdog story that appeals to people?

Glee is at best a wannabe "Grease" that falls far short...

I stopped watching after the first 6 episodes or so... The music was mostly meh for me. About #14, didn't they have a Pakistani principal or is he gone now?

Mike: This is sacrilege for a gay guy to admit, but I don't watch the show. I know, can you believe it? Now I watch the little gay clips that come out of it, but that's it. I agree that it's over hyped and over marketed. People need feel good, sugary songs masquerading as substance in this awful economy.

Is this a revenge post for me defending ur sister?

LOL! :p

LOL @ Phunk!!

I enjoyed Season One, but I grew disillusioned when I realized that they completely sold out, each new song was just done for the money it gained when charting the next day!

Mikey, Mikey, Mikey. Am I going to have to come over there and take away your gay card??? You're analizing it WAY too much. You have to keep in mind that Ryan Murphy is the creator. Just how realistic were his other hits, Nip Tuck and Popular (one of my all time favorite shows, EVER)? I mean come on, how often does a dog bite off it's owner's nipple because she's having sex with!! You just have to sit back, relax and enjoy it. As for the acting, it would be just too depressing to see all these people that could sing, dance AND act. I'll watch just to see the HOT Harry Shum, Jr. dance. Thank you very much!!

Relax and just see it for what it is...ENTERTAINMENT. You must agree that the gay bullying storyline with Kurt and Karofsky is timely, relevant and is bring that discussion to millions of homes each week. Something good for all of us. I'm betting that they get togehter sooner rather than later.

LOL @ the response!

@ M@rvin: The principal is still there. Talk about a lack of leadership...
@ fan of casey: I don't think you're missing anything by not watching other than maybe the one or two cute guys... oh and the awesome music (sarcasm).
@ Phunk Factor: LOL!!! Maybe... ... actually I was frustrated while watching Glee last night. I was also looking for an argument.
@ Bruce: You may have to take away my gay card. I do analyze everything... hehehe. It's a fault of mine. I just have a hard time looking at it as entertainment when the acting is so bad I get frustrated watching the characters and have to do something, hence analyze. And Kurt and Karofsky need to get together ASAP.

That vid clip is hilariously bad. :-P Maybe that's a reason to watch it? To laugh at the sheer cheesy-ness of it all.

P.S. I've only watched a handful of Glee episodes, though none to completion. I too just can't seem to get into it when there are many other shows that demand my attention.

I just watched the clip....why was everything reversed, like it was in a mirror? I'm not into Glee, at all. And after watching that clip. I know why. Not my cup of tea!

I was about to post in back a response but then I read Bruce's comment and he has already said it all!!!

I too watched Nip Tuck fr a while but hated it...it seemed like soft grade porn with absolutely no story-line!

Keeping in mind that it's primary aim is to induce laughter, i can see why most of the characters are gross exaggerations of their normal selves! But occasionally under all the crazy drama, there DOES come a good plot-line....Kurt's bullying, Sue's Down Syndrome Sister, Quinn's transformation...it all falls in place eventually....and yes, don't over-analyze!

I hate glee for so many reasons! It is truly idiotic with horrible writing. It is very poorly thought out. Relationships are develop and dismantled in seconds! That is not real life. Are the cheerleaders spies or members of the club? Oh, they're both? And everyone's fine with that? Cool story. Mercedes is so stereotypically black, its ridiculous. She, like all the other characters, have no depth! It's just a bunch of singing idiots who recieve praise because of Americas new obsession with musicals. A waste of air time!
